Early Saturday morning, Cyclone Pam, described as a "monster" by President Baldwin Lonsdale, caused massive devastation across the Vanuatu Island chain. Pam's more than 180-mile-per-hour winds destroyed or damaged some 90 percent of the buildings on the main island of Port Vila, according to a recent report. Though the reported death toll presently is not high, it is expected to rise.
Please pray for the victims of this massive storm. Pray that people who have lost loved ones will be comforted. Pray for care and healing among the injured. Pray for Convoy of Hope and other relief agencies that are providing aid to this beleaguered nation. Pray for Assemblies of God missionaries who have personally experienced disaster and are helping others manage theirs. Pray also for leaders within the national church as they respond to the hurting and homeless. Pray for a covering of God's protection upon all church congregations. Pray also that redemptive purposes in the culture will be accomplished even in the midst of such devastation.
